A voice that goes through the body, life and soul

“The first time I heard about Monique was on her first solo album “Shadows” from 1991. This new exciting singer completely swept me away with tracks like “Rocket Of Hope” and “Tell Me Why”.
 
I bought “Shadows” on audio tape and had it in my car non-stop for three months, where I played in until the tape broke. Very rarely have I come across a voice like Monique’s – inside or outside of Denmark.

A voice which is exotic, seductive, dramatically deep and spiritual – a voice with a depth which goes through my body, life and soul. For me Monique is the very best when she takes the American song tradition with upbeat, gospel or soul music.

In a magical way Monique makes songs from other artists her own – and maybe even more beautiful than the original version. My personal favorites are when Monique sings the quiet ballads where the power in her voice really shines through. Listen to her version of Brenda Russel’s “Piano in The Dark” on the “Believer” album (2007) or Roberta Flack’s “Feel like Making Love” from 2001.
